Possible future members
The EU may expand to include more members in the future. These include Turkey, which currently has a close economic relationship with the EU. Other possible states for European Enlargement include Serbia, Kosovo, Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Macedonia.
European countries that are linked to the EU but have decided not to join include Norway, Iceland and Switzerland. These sometimes form the bases of Eurosceptics’ ideas for how Britain could work with the EU after exit.
